Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj is undeniably talented, but he has unfortunately developed a reputation as a player who goes down too easily.
With five bookings for simulation already in his short career, the Belgian international has attracted criticism when his talent should instead be attracting plaudits.
At just 20, the winger has plenty of time to get the habit out of his system, to go down only when there is no choice, and if he needs an example of how to do just that he need look no further than Cristiano Ronaldo’s own time at Old Trafford.
When the Portuguese player first arrived at United, he too had a penchant for hitting the ground rather than the back of the net. But the habit was soon coached – and talked – out of him and a player who had once frustrated suddenly dazzled.
Januzaj has too much talent to have an unshakable reputation as a diver, and he must ensure he proves that in the years to come.
Against Arsenal this season he was clean through and had a great chance to cross for a teammate but instead he opted to fall to the ground seconds after the initial challenge had been made.
In the same situation, Ronaldo would have provided a goal or an assist, and Januzaj should now be looking to do the same.
