Celtic manager Ronny Deila spoke to the press today ahead of his side's Scottish Cup replay against Dundee United on Wednesday night, and heaped praise on winger James Forrest, with quotes reported by the official Celtic Twitter account.
Deila watched on as his Celtic side clinched the Scottish League Cup trophy on Sunday afternoon, which was the Norwegian's first piece of silverware as Bhoys manager.
Goals from Kris Commons and James Forrest handed Celtic a 2-0 win over Dundee United, and the two sides are now set to meet for the third time in just ten days on Wednesday night.
Ahead of that game, Deila spoke to the press, and as reported by the Celtic official Twitter account, he heaped praise on winger Forrest after he earned a call-up to the Scotland on Monday.
RD on Scotland squad: “James Forrest is a special player and can do special things. I’m happy for him.”— Celtic Football Club (@celticfc) March 17, 2015
Forrest, 23, has been on the books at Celtic since the age of 13, but has seen his impact diminished by a host of injuries.
His development has somewhat stalled in recent years, and he has played just 18 times this season, scoring twice in the process.
It's therefore something of a surprise to see Forrest in the squad, especially when in-form wingers Matt Phillips of QPR and Forrest's Celtic team mate Gary Mackay-Steven have been left out by manager Gordon Strachan as Scotland prepare to face Northern Ireland and Gibraltar.
The games give Forrest a chance to add to his nine caps so far, whilst also presenting the opportunity to impress Deila and show why he deserves to play more regularly.
