New Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat is one of the most experienced and well respected coaches in Europe.
He has plenty of friends in high places and enjoys a good relationship with several top flight bosses all over the world.
One colleague he was particularly chummy with in the Netherlands was Louis van Gaal, back when the current Manchester United boss was the manager of the Netherlands national team.
It’s an example of the sort of esteem and prestige that Advocaat is held in and hopefully he’ll be able to bring forward his quality and experience.
He’s under pressure to get results quickly, which will help the Black Cats to pull their way up the table and away from the danger of the bottom three.
If he can keep the side in the Premier League and then utilise old friendships which help Sunderland in relation to the transfer market to improve his squad looking ahead to next season, that’s one benefit few fans will argue against.
His first match in charge of the team will be away to West Ham this weekend.
