Sunderland legend Micky Gray told talkSPORT yesterday what the club’s new manager needs to show the club’s fans to win them over.
The club confirmed via their Twitter account that Dick Advocaat is the man who replaces Gus Poyet at the Stadium of Light until the end of the season.
He faces a difficult task in terms of keeping the club up and winning fans over, with confidence low among supporters at the moment.
“This is the Stadium of Light – Give the fans something to shout about, show them some passion and show them some commitment,” said Gray.
It’s a very logical suggestion for Gray to make and one which will ring true with fans of the club all over the world.
Most fans will take a defeat if their side has been beaten by a better team and if the players have given everything throughout a game as they try to make a difference.
Sunderland fans saw some very flat performances towards the end of Poyet’s spell in charge and the new boss will have a tough challenge to lift the spirit and belief in the side.
The most important thing for the team and the easiest way for the new boss to win over the fans is to simply register a win.
Make sure that happens and everything else will follow; the players will have a spring in their step, they’ll look a little extra motivated and that will rub off on the fans.
