Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook has been called up to the England Under-19 squad for the upcoming European Under-19 Championship Elite Round qualifiers.
The 18-year-old will be part of an 18-man squad which will travel to France next week to take on the hosts, Azerbaijan and Denmark for a spot in the finals, which will be held in Greece in July.
Cook has played for the England Under-18 team so far in his career, but injuries to Middlesbrough’s Bryn Morris and Tottenham Hotspur-owned MK Dons youngster Dele Alli have seen the Leeds youngster make the step up.
The teenager is considered as one of the best young players in the Championship and is a regular for the Leeds first team.
Cook has created 35 chances in 34 Championship appearances so far this campaign, while having a pass accuracy of 76% and a shot accuracy of 50%.
Following the announcement on Tuesday, Leeds fans took to social networking site Twitter to have their say on Cook getting ‘promoted’ in the England set-up.
