Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy told talkSPORT yesterday why he thinks his old side will beat Manchester United this weekend.
Unsurprisingly, Murphy has backed his former employers not just to beat United this weekend, but also to pip them to the fourth Champions League qualification place by the end of the campaign.
“I think they’ll beat United next week, I think they’ll overtake them – the way Liverpool are playing, they’re playing really well, consistently and making lots and lots of chances,” said Murphy.
It certainly won’t be an easy game for Liverpool because United go into the game after arguably their best performance of the season under Louis van Gaal.
They looked unplayable in the match against Tottenham while Liverpool showed their battling qualities to grind out a 1-0 win against Swansea last night.
Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that his team can play more free flowing football in the game at Anfield and it’s important his side look to make the most of their advantage.
The big test is going to be whether United can see off what is likely to be a fast paced and high intensity start from Liverpool.
United have struggled against their arch rivals in the past when they have been put on the back foot from the very first minute.
If they see through a difficult opening period still in the game, they have the motivation to prove Murphy wrong.
