Carragher: I doubted Jordan Henderson was good enough for Liverpool, now he's one of the best

Jordan Henderson was the match winner as Liverpool beat Swansea City.

Jamie Carragher paid tribute to Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson via SkySports after the midfielder struck the winning goal against Swansea.

The victory took Liverpool back to within three points of rivals Manchester United before the two teams face off this weekend.

Carragher admitted that when Jordan Henderson came to the club in 2011, he had his doubts over his talent, and has happily been proven wrong.

He said: "If I'm honest when they first came, maybe a lack of quality: Is he good enough to play for Liverpool? That was always the question.

"It wasn't athleticism, attitude, or intensity, that was always there. Total up how many goals, assists he's got this season, he's getting better each year, but you see his interview, he's still saying I've got to get better.

"He's the type of lad you want him in your team. The improvement hes made in the last two years make him one of the best players in the country."

Henderson has five Premier League goals this season and seven assists, his best ever tally in the fewest number of games played to date.

It's an impressive combination of being directly involved in 12 goals, compared to only three in his debut season.

There was a lot of pressure on the midfielder after his move from Sunderland, and it was under manager Kenny Dalglish which he struggled. Brendan Rodgers has since overseen his turnaround in form, and it is not totally inconceivable he can get close to scoring double figures before the season is over with a late push.
