Arsenal's star summer signing Alexis Sanchez was unable to make a telling impact as the club exited the Champions League.
The Chilean is Arsenal's top scorer this season, but did not any of the club's three goals in the two legs against Monaco, exactly the big games the Gunners bought him for.
Sanchez has been a great buy for the club overall, but he is beginning to look a little like he is in need of a rest. The match against Monaco was his 41st game since signing for the club in the summer.
It should not be forgotten either that Sanchez did not get much of a rest during the off-season due to his World Cup exploits, and that could be coming home to roost now.
Against Monaco he had just one shot, which was off target, and completed only 74 per cent of his passes, the lowest of any Arsenal player.
Sanchez worked hard, making three tackles, but also gave away three fouls, and it was his ultimate lack of a goalscoring threat which was most concerning.
In his last 10 matches he has just one goal and one assist, and it has not gone unnoticed by Arsenal fans, who reacted with disappointment to his display...
Really could of done with Ox + Rosicky tonight. Front foot players. Sanchez was terrible again on the big stage Welbz always turns up #AFC— Liam Jöe Blackwood (@ljblackwood) March 17, 2015
Time to rest Sanchez and give Walcott some more game time. #Afc— Mayur Date (@imayurdate) March 17, 2015
Sanchez was highly ineffective today. Lost the ball & held onto it too much rather than pick a pass & move on. Could have done better. #afc— Gooner from Geneva (@Geneva_Gooner) March 17, 2015
What annoys me is people talk about Ozil didn't do this or Ozil didn't do that yet Sanchez was the worst player out there. #AFC— TGI (@ThomasGibbo) March 17, 2015
Sanchez was awful tonight.. He has probably been our worst player over the last few games.. Time for the bench? #AFC— Terrel Mark (@tmark14) March 17, 2015
Özil had a brilliant performance, Sanchez had one of his worst performances for Arsenal. Özil will be slated tomorrow. #AFC— Hampus Kontio (@hump_K) March 17, 2015
Sanchez has been incredibly wasteful but his work rate ensures criticism is Muted It's all about body language that makes Ozil a target— Clive (@clivepafc) March 17, 2015
