On Tuesday evening, Arsene Wenger returns to the Stade Louis II for Arsenal’s crucial Champions League clash with AS Monaco. With the London club down 3-1 from the first leg, it will need to be a gargantuan comeback to see the Premier League club reach the quarter-finals.
It is a homecoming for Wenger, returning to the club where he won the French league championship in the 1987-88 season and lifted the Coupe de France three years later. His record at Monaco was excellent, winning 130 of his 266 games there.
Before leaving the club, he nearly led them to European glory, losing the 1992 European Cup Winners Cup final 2-0 to Werder Bremen.
After his spell at boyhood club Strasbourg, it was at Monaco where Wenger began to shape his managerial credentials.
Here are some fantastic pictures looking back to when the Arsenal boss was in charge of Tuesday’s opponents.
