Manchester United produced a perfect response to their critics by beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson was in the stands and was captured by the television cameras smiling as his old side put on a performance he would have been proud to claim as one he masterminded.
Louis van Gaal's side won through first half goals from Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney, to keep them in fourth place, and only two points off second placed Manchester City, who lost a day earlier against Burnley.
In recent months whenever Ferguson has been spotted on screen he has not been looking too happy, with results mixed ever since he left the club, but this season the Red Devils have the best home record of any side in the Premier League, winning 37 points in comparison to Chelsea's 36.
United striker Wayne Rooney told ManUtd.com he viewed the performance as the best the club had played all season, particularly the first 45 minutes, with the result setting the club up nicely for a crucial visit to Anfield next weekend.
