Former Aston Villa player Pat Heard has suggested what he feels was the best thing about his old side's win against Sunderland.
Villa were superb in a 4-0 win against the Black Cats over the weekend as they further improved their chances of avoiding the drop down into the Championship by the end of the season.
“Before the game, we’d scored four away goals all season – we’ve managed to repeat that in the first 45 minutes of the game, it was remarkable,” said Heard.
Villa have momentum and are building confidence under Tim Sherwood, with three wins on the bounce now across all competitions.
Villa flew out of the traps against Sunderland and Gus Poyet’s side simply had no answer to it.
Tim Sherwood was obviously keen for his side to build an advantage quickly and the defence, which has been rocky for most of the season, was superb in ensuring that the Black Cats never found a way back into the game.
The result didn’t just improve Villa’s standing in the table, it would have done the confidence of the players some good.
Villa have suffered some bad defeats away from home this season, such as the one at Arsenal, but this result will give them the belief and confidence that they can compete at any ground in the country.
Villa now have a full week to rest and recover before the game against Swansea this weekend.
