Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat has admitted in the Chronicle that his side got exactly what they deserved against Everton at the weekend.
Newcastle were second best throughout the match at Goodison Park and Janmaat says that the 3-0 scoreline was not at all harsh on his team.
“We didn’t deserve anything and we go nothing," he said. “Everton deserved the win. It wasn’t about luck."
Everton cruised to success against the Magpies thanks to goals from James McCarthy, Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley and it was a performance which takes some of the pressure off them.
For Newcastle, though, it was just another example of the mediocrity that seems to have become accepted by the squad at St. James' Park.
Too often the Magpies squad have looked under-motivated throughout the season and they have been outfought on numerous occasions.
Newcastle have now won just twice in their last 11 games and they need to start picking up some victories to ensure their season doesn't take a turn for the worse.
At the moment the North East outfit are comfortably clear of the drop, but things threaten to get too close for comfort unless they start putting in performances of far higher quality than the one they delivered this weekend.
