Manchester United maintained their challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at home on Sunday.
The Red Devils headed into the game at Old Trafford on the back of a 2-1 home defeat to Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
That loss at Old Trafford saw United relinquish all hopes of winning a major trophy this season, and many expected them to bounce back against Spurs in style.
Louis van Gaal’s side did indeed return to winning ways with aplomb, getting the better of Tottenham with ease in front of over 75,000 spectators at Old Trafford.
Marouane Fellaini put hosts United in the lead as early as the ninth minute, and Michael Carrick doubled the advantage on 19 minutes.
England international forward Wayne Rooney effectively ended the game as a contest in the 34th minute with the Red Devils’ third goal.
Sunday’s win sees United remain fourth in the Premier League table with 56 points from 29 matches, just two points behind second-placed Manchester City.
Following the victory, United duo Carrick and Daley Blind took to social networking site Twitter to revel in the triumph.
