Manchester City take on Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday evening, and a victory at the Nou Camp is a must if Manuel Pellegrini’s men are to proceed.

City are 2-1 down after the first leg, when Luis Suarez netted twice for Barcelona before Sergio Aguero halved the deficit with a vital second-half strike.

In the build-up to the match, City play-maker David Silva has been speaking to the Manchester Evening News about how to get the better of Barca superstar and fellow Argentine Lionel Messi.

“You can stop Messi by working a lot,” Silva said.

“He is the best, but he has the best behind him, alone he would do nothing.”

In short, Silva wants himself and his City teammates to work hard at negating the likes of Andreas Iniesta and Xavi, to prevent the chances from coming Messi’s way in the first place.

In other news, City’s official website has revealed that Silva has been crowned the club’s Player of the Month for February.

The Spanish international scored two goals and provided two assists in the league last month, while he also set up Aguero’s potentially vital strike against Barcelona.
