Dundee United midfielder John Rankin has taken a stab at Celtic after the League Cup final.
Dundee United midfielder John Rankin has explained to the Dundee Evening Telegraph he feels Celtic were clever in the build up to the League Cup final.
The Bhoys won their first trophy of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Tangerines yesterday and Rankin feels Celtic worked hard to give themselves an advantage before the game had even started.
“It was wise on their behalf to put a bit of pressure on them and it obviously worked in their favour because the decisions went their way,” he said.
“It doesn't help the referee when people are wading in and trying to make comment when realistically they should just be leaving it to them to do their own job. Their job is hard enough as it is.”
The Tangerines will have a chance to get some revenge when the sides meet in a cup replay this week, after a 1-1 draw in the previous game.
Hopefully all that fans will be talking about after the replay is the quality and standard of football and not any contentious decisions which happen during the game.
Celtic will be the favourites and they have the momentum after the final win yesterday, but Dundee United should be determined to try and spoil the party a little bit.
At the same time as being slightly critical of Celtic, Rankin is subconsciously trying to give his team an advantage ahead of the replay and it’s a match, which will need a strong referee because of the emotion which will be involved during the game.
