Former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Danny Murphy predicted his top four for the Premier League, on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT.
Murphy made a couple of big calls, suggesting that Manchester United would miss out along with his old club Spurs, backing Liverpool to continue their good form and retain their top four position for a second season in a row.
United have been inconsistent so far this season, but it’s difficult to see how they might give up their fourth place if they continue to produce the sort of positive performance they managed against Tottenham yesterday.
Chelsea and City look like safe bets, with Arsenal boasting an impressive qualification record since Arsene Wenger took control of the club all the way back in 1996.
As things stand, United are defending a five point gap from Liverpool in fifth, though Brendan Rodgers’ side play their game in hand against Swansea this evening.
If they win this evening, they will then have a chance to overtake United when the sides meet in the league at Anfield this weekend.
