Manchester United's 'best performance' has put the pressure on Liverpool, says Carragher

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has taken to social media site Twitter in order to assess Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils were in superb form as goals from Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney ended the match as a contest before the half-time interval.

Louis van Gaal’s men were fast, precise and above all confident as they ripped into the Spurs back-line, prompting Carragher to label their performance as their best of the campaign.

The three points move United five points clear of fifth placed Liverpool and with the duo set to meet at Anfield next weekend, the Sky Sports pundit has highlighted the pressure now put on the Reds.

The Merseysiders head into their fixture at Swansea in excellent form having not lost a Premier League encounter since their disappointing 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford three months ago.

They will also be buoyed by their recent record against the Swans, finding the net 17 times against Gary Monk’s side in their previous five matches in all competitions.

Victory in Wales would set up a fascinating encounter between the North-West duo and one many Premier League observers would bill as a possible Champions League qualification decider.

With Arsenal looking increasingly comfortable in their bid for a top four spot, a five-way battle for two spots could soon be narrowed down to one place to be fought out between the bitter rivals.
