Middlesbrough got back to winning ways with a convincing 4-1 victory at home to promotion rivals Ipswich Town.
The result means Aitor Karanka’s men stay level with Bournemouth and Watford but below both sides on goal difference.
Daryl Murphy had cancelled out Daniel Ayala’s opener before Albert Adomah restored Boro’s lead before the break. Patrick Bamford then sealed the victory in the second half with two excellent finishes.
The on-loan Chelsea striker first of all slotted home following a Jelle Vossen pass before selling Ipswich defender Tommy Smith a remarkable dummy and running through to cooly finishing again.
It was the latest in a long line of fantastic performances from Bamford, who is now Middlesbrough’s top scorer in the Championship this season with 13 goals.
Every top side needs a prolific goalscorer and Bamford is Karanka’s man. He has fantastic potential and will surely be playing top flight football next season whether Middlesbrough are promoted or not.
Bamford has a good burst of pace and his finishing ability is excellent. These two raw attributes combined with his superb work ethic mean he is destined to make it to the big time.
We have seen the likes of Danny Ings and Charlie Austin make successful steps up to the Premier League this season and Bamford may be next in line.
