Bournemouth have now scored 10 goals against Blackpool in the Championship this season after a 4-0 demolition of the bottom club on Saturday.
Brett Pitman’s first half hat-trick and Callum Wilson’s penalty was enough for the Cherries to stay on top of the Championship on goal difference ahead of Watford and Middlesbrough, who both won comfortably at home too.
It was the 27-year-old striker’s first treble since January 2013 against Crewe Alexandra and took his Championship tally to 12 goals.
Pitman has now scored five goals in his last two appearances to see him overtake Yann Kermorgant in the Bournemouth league goal-scoring charts. The Frenchman has been Wilson’s staple partner this season and has supported him with a healthy 11 league goals.
The spurt of form from Pitman has been extremely welcome for Eddie Howe, after Kermorgant picked up a heel injury which will limit his playing time between now and the end of the season.
The result means Howe’s men have now scored 78 goals in the league this season, the most of any club in the Football League, with these three strikers combining for exactly half of those strikes.
