The Belgian forward put in a display of the highest quality to lead Everton to victory over Newcastle on Sunday
Everton returned to winning ways against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, and there were several good performers in the side.
The win over John Carver’s team was the Blues first at home since late December, moving them six points clear of the relegation zone to alleviate any worries over the drop for the time being.
As has been the case for most of this season, Everton’s victory was essential on star forward Romelu Lukaku leading the line and providing his team with an attacking threat, and he did just that in his 70 plus minutes appearance.
|Match||Goal Assist||Total Att Assist||Goals||Total Scoring Att||Ontarget Scoring Att||Accurate Pass||Fwd Pass||Mins Played|
|Romelu Lukaku||Everton vs Newcastle||1||1||1||4||3||21||10||74|
The forward didn’t manage to get on the score sheet from open play, but did convert a penalty with confidence to give hi side a comfortable two nil lead. Before that spot kick, he had also provided the assist for James McCarthy’s opener.
Elsewhere Lukaku was just as effective, with him having four total scoring attempts throughout the game, three of which were on target as he sought to make his side more comfortable.
The game also saw a change in tactic for the Blues as they often used the Belgian as a target man to aim long balls towards to get the team on the attack, and in that regard he proved useful as well, with him having 21 accurate passes throughout the game, ten of which were forward ones as he sought to get his team on the attack.
A goal and an assist for Lukaku then, as well as several other impressive stats, show his importance to Everton’s cause once again. Hopefully he can continue the form he showed against Newcastle to ease their relegation fears further when they travel to QPR next weekend.
