Newcastle United’s disappointing run of form continued on Sunday, as they suffered a comprehensive 3-0 defeat to Everton away from home in the Premier League.
Hosts Everton surged ahead as early as the 20th minute when James McCarthy scored after Romelu Lukaku's lay-off.
Belgium international striker Lukaku himself doubled the Toffees’ lead at Goodison Park 11 minutes into the second half.
Aaron Lennon was brought down by Yoan Gouffran inside the Newcastle penalty box, and the 21-year-old former Chelsea youngster made no mistake from 12 yards.
Things turned from bad to worse for visiting Newcastle on the hour mark when Fabricio Coloccini was sent off for a challenge on Tottenham Hotspur-owned Lennon.
John Carver’s side failed to stage a comeback with 10 men and conceded the third goal of the game in injury time when Ross Barkley found the target.
The result means that Everton remain 14th in the Premier League table with 31 points from 29 matches, six points above the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Carver’s Newcastle side stay 11th in the standings with 35 points.
