Manchester United legend Bryan Robson felt Chris Smalling was his former side's man of the match against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
But Robson was not most impressed by United's attacking forces. Instead, the 58-year-old singled out defender Smalling as Manchester United's main man against the north London side.
Smalling was certainly an impressive performer against Tottenham - but Robson's praise for the centre-back was high indeed, as boss Van Gaal didn't even mention the 25-year-old when singling out his star players on the day.
After the match, the Dutchman praised Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini.
Van Gaal: "I think Herrera and Mata both had a very good match, and Fellaini had a big influence with an assist and a goal." #mufc— Manchester United (@ManUtd) March 15, 2015
Meanwhile, on Twitter, Manchester United fans voted goal scorer Wayne Rooney their man of the match against Tottenham.
His goal was well taken and his celebration world class (the captain imitated his fall during his 'boxing match' with Phil Bardsley - held in his own kitchen). Next up for United: a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool. As Premier League fixtures go, it doesn't get much bigger...
