Liverpool striker Divock Origi came back with a bang this weekend, as he put an awful run in front of goal behind him to score three times for Lille.
The Belgian international’s hat-trick meant his side won 3-0 against Ligue 1 rivals Rennes, and yet it is worth remembering that prior to Sunday, the teenager had gone on a barren run that lasted 1,277 minutes.
But no one will be thinking of that today; only that the player who cost Liverpool £10million last summer has doubled his goal tally in the league in one afternoon.
The Liverpool loanee now has six goals in 24 Ligue 1 appearances; not exactly form to write home about but considering he is only 19, he should be applauded for single-handedly winning the match.
While much has been made of Origi’s poor form, the simple fact is he is a teenager whose reputation has developed quicker than many expected, first with his World Cup call-up and then with his big-money move to Liverpool.
Time will tell just how good the player becomes, but for now Liverpool fans will surely be basking in the glow of his three-goal haul.
After Lille’s victory we took to Twitter to see what Liverpool fans thought of Origi’s performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
