Former Arsenal and Celtic forward Charlie Nicholas looks ahead to Sunday’s Premier League clash between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur will finish above Manchester United in the Premier League if they do not lose at Old Trafford.

North London outfit Spurs are currently sixth in the league table with 50 points from 28 matches, just three points behind United, who are fourth in the standings.

“If Spurs don't lose at Old Trafford this weekend, then I think Spurs will finish above United,” former Celtic star Nicholas told Sky Sports. “They have a golden ticket to drag United into this mire and fire themselves into the mix.”

Mathematically, if Tottenham pick up a point or even a win at Old Trafford, then they will still be behind United (on goal difference at least).

But psychologically Mauricio Pochettino’s side will get a huge boost if they win against Louis van Gaal’s side at Old Trafford.

Tottenham have shown against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal that they can step up against the bigger teams, and they need to head into Sunday’s game with the same attitude.

Losing against United will be a huge blow in Spurs’ chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season, as they will fall further behind in the race if results elsewhere go against them.

However, victory will enhance Tottenham’s chances of a top-four finish, and that is what they should be aiming for.
