Aston Villa were impressive 4-0 victors at the Stadium of Light yesterday.
Aston Villa were simply brilliant yesterday, although they were helped by the ineptitude of their opponents Sunderland. Villa led 4-0 at half time and that was how things stayed on the night as they cruised to victory.
Those four goals equalled Villa's goalscoring tally on the road in the Premier League this season and sent a clear message out to Premier League fans, Tim Sherwood is turning this team on it's head.
So how did the players react?
One man who had every right to be overjoyed with the result was Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke. He was struggling under Paul Lambert this season but looked far more his deadly self in this fixture.
He scored twice, including a trademark bullet header, to help Villa on their way and Tweeted this message after the game:
Even those who couldn't play were at it. Jack Grealish, who was harshly sent off in the FA Cup last weekend, was suspended for the game. But the young midfielder, who Sherwood is believed to be a massive fan of, was still buzzing with the result:
Of course he paid tribute in his Tweet to 16-year-old Rushian Hepburn-Murphy. The teenager made his debut for the club in the 83rd minute, replacing Christian Benteke.
He Tweeted after the game:
Unbelievable moment and great experience making my debut for Aston Villa first team pic.twitter.com/SRFasuHuxv— Rushian H-Murphy (@Rushcmpt) March 14, 2015
All in all then a very positive day at the office for Aston Villa.
