Arsene Wenger has confessed that talks over a new deal for the England international have begun.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confessed this week that talks over a new contract for Theo Walcott have begun, but admitted that they could be impacted by a number of factors.
With the former Southampton prodigy struggling for game time since returning from a serious injury, the French coach stated that the talks may not be plain sailing.
The Arsenal man was embroiled in a similar situation a couple of years ago and was reluctant to pen an extension with Wenger’s men at that point also.
Walcott was given a rare start for the Gunners in yesterday’s 3-0 victory over London rivals West Ham at the Emirates Stadium, but this was only his third inclusion in the starting XI in the Premier League in 2014-15.
With Walcott reportedly also wanting a pay increase in any potential new deal, Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to make their feelings known over the flying winger’s future.
Some have backed the Gunners attacker, others feel that the player must show his worth before asking for a new deal with a pay rise in North London. Meanwhile a cynical section of the Emirates Stadium faithful could see him at a rival club next season. Here are the best tweets.
This is one of Theo's worst performance in #AFC shirt for me. Not good for his contract talk.— KC10 (@KC10_gooner) March 14, 2015
Thought Theo always plays well when contract talks are on going, not so far today. #AFC— AFC4LYF (@mrj_gooner) March 14, 2015
Theo is on 100k right now, If he's been offered a new contract then it won't be less than 100k— Akshat (@AFC_aks12) March 14, 2015
If Theo has anything about him he'll sign a contract for the same salary & fight for his place. Doesn't deserve a pay rise. Always injured.— First Class Gooner (@Sanjay_AFC) March 14, 2015
Theo from last season would've scored at least 2 today. Far from his best but good to see him get some minutes under his belt. #AFC— TerryAFC (@TerryAFCx) March 14, 2015
Selling Theo would be a big mistake IMO.— Brendan (@AFC_93) March 10, 2015
Arsène and Theo; whatever is going on please sort it out.— Arsène Cross♣ (@don_cross_AFC) March 9, 2015
We all know if Walcott were to be sold he'd be off to Liverpool to £25m. Horrendous business, he'd be deadly in their side.— Raf (@TheFalseNein) March 14, 2015
lool how can you expect Walcott to accept a lower wage package, he is not a fool. He'll probably run it out and join Liverpool.— Dezil Dez (@DezilDez) March 14, 2015
Yup, Walcott is 100% leaving this summer. I reckon City or Liverpool.— Tony (@TTLe14) March 14, 2015
Watch Walcott go to City/LIverpool and stay fit for the duration of his time there.— David (@Gooner_66) March 14, 2015
