Real Madrid travel to Barcelona next weekend under immense pressure from the press.
The Spanish international has been placed heavily in the spotlight in recent weeks following a number of sub-par performances coinciding with his team’s struggles.
During last Tuesday’s embarrassing 4-3 Champions League defeat at home to Schalke, Casillas was arguably at fault for two of the visitors’ goals.
With a good goalkeeper in Keylor Navas in reserve, a number of questions have been posed over the past few days in regards to Casillas’ likely inclusion at Barcelona next weekend.
However, addressing the media before Madrid’s encounter with La Liga strugglers Levante on Sunday, Ancelotti backed Spain’s most celebrated custodian and revealed he will start against the Catalans.
“If Keylor plays tomorrow then no doubt Casillas will play against Barça. If Casillas plays tomorrow, then on Sunday against Barcelona then no doubt Casillas will play,” Ancelotti explained.
Since the turn of the year, last season’s Champions League winners have won only eight of their 15 matches and have endured two embarrassing defeats to bitter rivals Atletico Madrid.
After their loss at Athletic Bilbao last weekend, Barca finally took advantage and moved to the top of La Liga with just 12 matches remaining following their 6-1 hammering of Rayo Vallecano.
The El Clasico clash at the Nou Camp represents a huge chance for Luis Enrique’s side to pull away from Madrid at the top of the table and it’s a game the Santiago Bernabeu outfit simply can’t afford to lose.
