Christian Benteke reveals what Sherwood has brought to Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s resurgence took another step forward with a whopping 4-0 win at Sunderland.

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke says the players have been given more responsibility and freedom since Tim Sherwood took charge of the club, the BBC report.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss inherited the reins last month and two successive Premier League victories over West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland have seen the West Midlands outfit climb out of the bottom three.

Aside from their victories, performances have been on the up and, more importantly, the strikers are back among the goals - in stark contrast to Paul Lambert’s ill-fated and misfiring reign.

Earlier in the campaign, Villa struggled desperately for goals and a run of just one goal in eight Premier League encounters meant change was necessary.

While Sherwood oversaw two defeats in his first two matches as Villa boss, three wins and eight goals in all competitions have followed and Benteke puts his side’s resurgence down to freedom.

"I think we are playing with more freedom since the manager took over. Not just me, the manager is giving us a lot of responsibility and freedom,” the former Genk striker explained.

The Belgium international’s previous goal scoring woes were a mystery to many, but with three goals and an assist in his last two matches, Villa fans will be hoping he returns to his best.

The victory at the Stadium of Light lifts Villa above Sunderland and into 16th spot, three points ahead of Burnley in 18th following their shock 1-0 win over Manchester City.
