Report: Celtic planning 2016 loan swoop for Steven Gerrard

The Scottish champions have been linked with a move for the Liverpool legend.

Celtic are planning a sensational loan move for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in 2016, according to the Sunday People.

Gerrard, of course, is leaving Liverpool for MLS side LA Galaxy at the end of the current season, which means he will be free to play for sides outside the MLS in the early months of next year.

And the Sunday People claim Celtic are keen on offering the 34-year-old a chance to play during the MLS off-season.

The Bhoys similarly took Roy Keane on at the end of his playing career, although there are distinct differences in this case.

Champions League winer Gerrard, though, will certainly bring an iconic status, as well as vast experience, to Celtic Park. Is a move for the Liverpool captain a realistic possibility?

Only time will tell, although Celtic chiefs are said by the Sunday People to be optimistic of their chances due to Gerrard's reluctance to play against Liverpool in the Premier League, making the Hoops a potentially ideal destination for a number of reasons.

Back in Scotland, Ronny Deila's side are all set for the first final of their season, with Celtic due to face Dundee United in the Scottish League Cup final at Hampden Park this afternoon.
