Ecuador international forward Valencia could be sidelined for today’s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium in North London due to a freak injury.
The 25-year-old cut a big toe on a broken teacup earlier in the week and is doubtful for today’s London derby, as reported by The Guardian.
Vega believes that Valencia will be a huge miss for West Ham and told Sky Sports’ Morning View show on Thursday: “Valencia has been really, really good for West Ham this season, great striking partner in front there.
“I think they are going to miss him because he is one of the guys in the front to whom the midfield players could supply the ball. West Ham will definitely miss Valencia on Saturday for sure.”
Valencia is an important player for West Ham, and he will indeed be a big miss for the Hammers if he fails to make the matchday squad today.
The 2014 summer signing has scored four goals and created 11 chances in 25 Premier League appearances so far this season, while having a pass accuracy of 76% and wining 41% of the duels.
Valencia’s partnership with fellow summer signing Diafra Sakho up front has been one of the reasons why West Ham are where they are in the Premier League table.
It will be interesting to see what manager Allardyce does in terms of team selection if indeed Valencia has to sit out today’s encounter at the Emirates.
