Newcastle United boss John Carver has sung the praises of 19-year-old midfielder Olivier Kemen, according to the Chronicle.

Carver confirmed Kemen is one of three youth players that could be used by Newcastle in the Premier League during their visit to Everton - and praised his physicality and ability to blend into the senior side.

The Magpies are having to turn to youth players out of necessity, although it may just provide them with a much-needed boost when it comes to the business end of their top-flight campaign.

And the talented Kemen has been the subject of particular focus from Newcastle boss Carver, with Jamie Sterry and Lubo Satka also having trained with the first team this week and in contention to feature against the Toffees.

He is quoted as saying: “This weekend I have Jamie Sterry, Lubo Satka and Olivier Kemen. He’s looked fitter and stronger and more comfortable with the group.

“There’s a few in among it.”

Kemen himself spoke only this week about the encouraging words Carver had provided him with regards to his first-team chances.

The Newcastle youngster revealed that the boss had urged him to keep pushing for a place in his senior squad - and Kemen certainly isn't short of any confidence when it comes to that pursuit.

The 19-year-old's moment may just come for the Magpies in the Premier League this weekend. Can he make the most of it?
