Manchester United round-up: Swiss defender latest and Falcao decision defended

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

The agent of Wolfsburg full-back Ricardo Rodriguez has been speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport about Manchester United’s alleged interest in his client.

The 22-year-old Swiss international is a left-back who can also play as a left winger if required, and agent Gianluca Di Domenico said, “I can say that United have called to ask questions, but Wolfsburg did not want to give in.”

United currently have Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind who can all play at left-back but Rodriguez showed at the World Cup in 2014 what he is capable of and his versatility would surely be welcomed at Old Trafford.

In other news, former Colombia coach Francisco Maturana has been speaking to about Radamel Falcao’s failure to seal a regular starting spot for United.

Manager Louis van Gaal recently opted to play the on-loan forward in the under-21s and Maturana said, “I would do the same thing van Gaal has with Falcao.

“They need to put out on the pitch the best team possible and if Falcao isn’t at his best, it’s better to play with other strikers.”

United take on Tottenham on Sunday and with Robin van Persie still unavailable it will be interesting to see if the Colombian gets another chance to add to his four goals this season.
