Chelsea’s Azpilicueta names Arsenal star in his ideal five-a-side team

Chelsea fullback Cesar Azpilicueta was asked to name his ideal five-a-side team.

In a heavily Chelsea-influenced five-a-side team, the Blues’ Cesar Azpilicueta had room for one surprise addition by including Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal, Chelsea’s official website report.

The Spanish internationals were once teammates at former La Liga side Osasuna and Azpilicueta – commonly known as Dave in West London – maintains that their friendship has preserved.

“I'm not going to pick myself, so the defender in my side is going to be Nacho Monreal from Arsenal. He is my good friend, we know each other from Osasuna and he is a good competitor,” Azpilicueta explained.

Monreal joined the Gunners from Malaga during the 2013 January transfer window and has gone on to make 76 appearances for the club in all competitions.

This season, owing to a rather desperate injury crisis at the Emirates stadium the 29-year-old was asked to fill in both at fullback and centre-back – performing his duties in impressive fashion.

On Monday, he scored the opening goal during the North Londoners’ 2-1 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Manchester United, only his second goal in a Gunners shirt.

The remaining four players of Azpilicueta’s five-a-side team consist of Blues players, though rather unpredictably the fullback couldn’t decide on a shot-stopper so he opted for two.

“I've played with some great goalkeepers. I don't know, there are too many to choose from! Can I pick two goalkeepers? Well, it is my team! I'm going for Petr and Thibaut,” he added.

To complete the 25-year-old’s team, Blues goal scoring duo Eden Hazard and Diego Costa got the nod – with 27 Premier League goals between them this in contrast wasn’t much of a surprise.

“My first attacking player is Eden Hazard. It's for obvious reasons. My striker will be Diego Costa. I know he's going to compete, be strong. I think we are going to have a good team with these players.”
