Report: Newcastle to take risk on future of three first-team players

Newcastle United will reportedly refrain from offering new contracts to Ryan Taylor, Jonas Gutierrez or Sammy Ameobi before the end of the season.

Newcastle United are prepared to take a gamble on the respective futures of Ryan Taylor, Jonas Gutierrez and Sammy Ameobi, according to a report in the Chronicle.

The trio are all out of contract at the end of the campaign, but they reportedly will not be offered fresh terms any time soon.

Newcastle, instead, will wait until the last moment before analysing whether than can afford to lose them or not.

Who deserves to be offered a new deal?

Ameobi will feel particularly hard done by if he is not offered a new contract, considering his regular involvement in the side.

The winger may not be Newcastle's most exciting talent, but he has shown he has a role to play and there would likely be a number of suitors were he allowed to leave.

With Taylor and Guiterrez the decision is less clear-cut. Taylor is clearly a talented player, but injury problems have plagued his time at St. James' Park.

Guiterrez, meanwhile, has provided one of the best feel-good stories of the season, but there are question marks over whether he still has the ability to push Newcastle on to the next level.

The Argentine is 31 years of age and the Magpies appear keen not to let sentimentality get in the way of their decision regarding a new contract.
