Position is key to Alexis Sanchez's prolific season, says Arsene Wenger

The Chilean has 19 goals this season, just two behind his previous best.

Arsenal have certainly adopted themselves a new hero this season. Chilean international Alexis Sanchez arrived from Barcelona in the summer and has gone on to have an instant impact with the Arsenal first-team.

He has scored 19 goals so far in his debut season with the Gunners and been one of the Premier League's outstanding players all season.

That goalscoring ability and his hard working attitude has endeared him to the Arsenal faithful in his stint at the club.

When it comes to goals, Arsene Wenger has now revealed why he thinks he has found the net so frequently this season. His previous best is 21, so he is just three goals from overtaking that tally.

He is reported to have said, as quoted on Arsenal.com, that it is all about his position:

“That is linked with ability, technique and work in training, and confidence as well. Maybe with the position as well, because when the right footed play on the left, when he comes inside he has a chance to score.

“When he plays on the right [because] he is right footed, he is less in a position where he can score because he has better angles on the left. Also because maybe we play very attacking football and he gets better opportunities to score.”

Alexis has certainly proven a big threat from the left-hand side. While equally as impressive on the right or through the middle, he is a formidable force cutting in from the left-hand side and flashing the ball toward opposing goalkeepers.

Arsenal fans are certainly enjoying him in the position. If he can score a goal or two from the left when Arsenal take on West Ham tomorrow, the fans love for him will grow some more.
