Nottingham Forest announced the loan signing of Modou Barrow from Swansea City yesterday, who joins the club until the end of the season.
He’s the first player to come in under Dougie Freedman, who has made a fantastic start to life at the club. The side have momentum and Barrow provides the manager with an extra option across his midfield.
Barrow joins Forest having made just one start in the Premier League for the Swans this season. That will be frustrating for the player and will be one of his main pieces of motivation as he gets his teeth stuck into life at the club.
It will be interesting to see how Freedman uses Barrow because there’s not much wrong with the way Forest are currently playing. They have been decent in attack since he came in as boss and have created momentum.
Barrow will have to earn his chance and that means working hard in training and going all out to have an impact when he’s thrown into games off the bench. He has to try and show Freedman something, which gets him the nod.
One of the main things that Swansea boss Garry Monk will be looking for is progression and for the player to seize the opportunity, forcing his loan manager’s hand in terms of squad selection, creating a lasting impression on Monk looking ahead to next season.
Forest face a difficult game against Leeds this weekend and they need a perfect run of form to have any chance of finishing in the top six. It won’t be easy because Leeds have a vibrant and young side, but it’s a good chance for Forest to show how far they have progressed under the current manager.
Here’s what Forest fans on Twitter had to say about the new arrival.
Don't think Barrow will be a replacement for Burke or Antonio, he's more a replacement for their backup, Paterson. #nffc— 'Bala' (@DizzyBala) March 12, 2015
Not seen much of the lad, Mo Barrow, but he did well when he came on Vs Aresnal. Drove Swansea to the win when losing 1-0 at the time #NFFC— Harry Campbell (@H_NFFC_Cammy_14) March 12, 2015
