The striker has eight goals for Crewe, but has not scored in his last five.
Leeds had a changing of the guard up front this summer. Billy Sharp, Mirco Antenucci and Souleymane Doukara came in. Meanwhile, the likes of Ross McCormack, Matt Smith and Dominic Poleon out.
In one player's case, he came in and has since been sent out. That player is Nicky Ajose.
Ajose was signed by Leeds United in the summer but was not used by the club after Dave Hockaday's sacking, spending most of his time watching from the sidelines.
So he was allowed to join Crewe on loan at the end of November. That deal was then extended until the end of the season in January.
Ajose has been a resounding hit in League One scoring eight goals in 17 appearances. However, he is currently going through a dry patch. He has not scored since the Valentine’s Day win against Fleetwood Town, a run stretching five games.
So news from Watford today will certainly give him a boost, because powerful striker Uche Ikpeazu is returning to Crewe on loan for the rest of the season. Watford confirmed the news on their official site.
Ikpeazu spent time on loan at Crewe earlier this season but, after impressing in that deal, Doncaster Rovers convinced him to head their way. His time at the Yorkshire club was disappointing, failing to score in seven appearances.
But he and Ajose were lethal together at Crewe. Their partnership became one of the most feared in the division and if they can rekindle that spirit then Ajose will certainly start hitting the net again very soon.
