Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has taken to social networking site Twitter to express his gratitude for being invited to this month’s Liverpool All-Star Charity Match.

The Spain international will feature in the showdown between Steven Gerrard’s Select XI and Jamie Carragher’s Select XI on Sunday, March 29 (kick-off 3pm).

Among the other illustrious names who will feature in the game are Luis Suarez, Xabi Alonso, Pepe Reina and John Arne Riise.

Torres is regarded as a club legend by many Liverpool fans, and the AC Milan-owned striker seems to be excited at the prospect of returning to Anfield.

Torres joined Liverpool from Spanish outfit Atletico in the summer of 2007 and became an instant hit with the Merseyside club’s fans.

The 30-year-old played for the Reds until January 2011, when he moved to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

During his time at Liverpool, Torres scored a total of 81 goals in 142 matches, including 65 in 102 Premier League appearances.
