Arsene Wenger has given an underwhelming update on the fitness of midfielder Jack Wilshere, speaking to Arsenal.com.
The England international has not played since injuring his ankle against Manchester United in November, and it had seemed as though he was closing in on a return, but Wenger is now non-committal.
The boss said he can't put a date on when the 23-year-old may be able to play again for the first team, stating: "It's very difficult to say when he will be back. We have to respect his recovery."
Wilshere had returned to full training at the end of February, only to later suffer a setback with required him to have a 'minor' operation, as Wenger described to ESPN, before going onto state that his return would be 'days and not weeks.'
Wenger's comments may have been intended to ensure he was kept out of the upcoming international games at the end of the month, and if so, he will probably be feeling very clever with himself.
Yet if there is a genuine setback for the midfielder, it's a real blow for the player who missed the entire 2011/12 season through injury.
An article in The Times this week prior to Wenger's latest announcement, declared that Wilshere may have to leave Arsenal in order to get his career on track, with competition for places tough.
Here is a look at how fans reacted to the latest Wilshere developments...

I am really worried abt Jack Wilshere's career, one of my favorite players, unfulfilled talent who can't stay off the medical table— Dominic Gooner Hart (@DominicHart3) March 13, 2015
AW said Jack Wilshere will only be out for a matter of days. That was weeks ago & now it's difficult to say when he'll be back!— Gary Lawrence (@garythegooner56) March 13, 2015
