The North London outfit will travel to Manchester to take on the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Under manager Mauricio Pochettini, Spurs have played an attacking and high-pressing style of football, and Townsend insists that the team will not change their approach on Sunday.
“We’re focused on our own game but any Manchester United side that their manager puts out is going to be a top quality side and we’ve seen over recent weeks they’ve been picking up wins, putting results together and going on a run in the league, so it’s up to us to stop them,” the 23-year-old told Tottenham’s official website.
“We’ll look to play good attacking football and hopefully we’ll be good enough to win the game at the end of the day.”
Wining at Old Trafford will not be easy for Tottenham, but staying true to their style and philosophy is the best way to play.
United are vulnerable at the back, and Spurs’ high-pressing game is going to make things tough for Louis van Gaal’s side.
Although playing at home will give the Manchester outfit an advantage, Tottenham have shown time and time again this season that they can pick up points on the road.
The key to winning for Spurs will be not conceding an early goal. Although Spurs have staged comebacks on many occasions this campaign, they cannot afford to go on the backfoot against a United team determined to recover from Monday’s FA Cup upset against Arsenal.
