Alexis Sanchez on Arsenal’s attitude against Manchester United

Alexis Sanchez reflects on Arsenal’s victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup on Monday.

Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez has explained to the club’s official website that the main reason behind the team’s victory over Manchester United on Monday was the attitude.

The Gunners got the better of their Premier League rivals 2-1 at Old Trafford in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Nacho Monreal put Arsenal in the lead in the 25th minute, and although Wayne Rooney equalised just minutes later, former United striker Danny Welbeck’s strike just past the hour mark proved to be enough for the North London outfit to clinch the tie.

The Arsenal players gave an encouraging performance against the Red Devils, and Sanchez has now praised the attitude of the team in the match.

“The team played the game with a great attitude and with a genuine spirit to win it from the very first minute,” the 26-year-old told Arsenal’s official website.

“We never put our heads down against a top club like Manchester United and that attitude gave us the victory.

“We also played like that at Manchester City [in January]. We showed a great winning mentality that day. If we add that to the very talented squad we have, we will be able to beat anyone.”

Arsenal have often struggled against the better teams in the past, but this season Arsene Wenger’s side have stepped up their game.

The 2-1 victory over defending English champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League back in January was arguably Arsenal’s best performance of the season.

However, last month Arsenal went down 3-1 at home to AS Monaco in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie at the Emirates Stadium.

The current Arsenal team have a number of superb players, but as a team they have often struggled to win the big games in the past.

As Sanchez highlights, if Arsenal can go into every game with a positive and determined attitude, then they can certainly achieve success in the coming years.
