Why Cameron Carter-Vickers could make his Spurs debut as early as next season

Tottenham Hotspur have a young defender who has shone in recent matches and he may get a first-team chance sooner than initially thought.

Much has been made of Tottenham Hotspur’s promising young players, with the likes of Eric Dier, Nabil Bentaleb and Harry Kane impressing this season.

But while Harry Winks, Josh Onomah and the like will be hoping to earn first-team recognition next season, there is another player whose recent performances may have left him near the front of the queue despite his age.

At just 17, Cameron Carter-Vickers is not going to usurp the likes of Dier, Jan Vertonghen and Federico Fazio for a while yet, but there is every chance he will get chances next season in the cup competitions.

The teenager followed up his fine performance for Tottenham in the FA Youth Cup semi-final victory against Chelsea with another solid outing against Manchester United’s under-21 side on Monday evening.

Coming up against Radamel Falcao, Carter-Vickers looked calm and collected, not giving the prolific Colombian the chance to get a much-needed goal.

In fact he bossed the more senior player and if Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino opts against sending the teenager on loan next season, there is every chance he could get his Spurs debut in either the Capital One Cup or the FA Cup.

They say when you are good enough you are old enough, and the way Carter-Vickers has been playing, it seems he is both.
