West Ham striker Enner Valencia has suffered an unusual type of injury, the club confirmed on their official website.
The Ecuador international suffered 'deep lacerations' to his toe, after treading on a broken teacup.
The forward had to attend hospital and undergo surgery, with manager Sam Allardyce describing it as a 'freak accident'.
West Ham already have Andy Carroll and Carlton Cole ruled out with injuries, and Valencia's absence further depletes their strikeforce. Allardyce confirmed that the 25-year-old will miss this weekend's clash with Arsenal.
It leaves only Diafra Sakho and new addition Nene as available forward options for the Premier League match at The Emirates.
Valencia is not the only one of West Ham's strikers to get into a spot of bother at home this season. The Sun reported earlier this year that Diafra Sakho caused a fire in his apartment while trying to make himself a cup of tea.
The South American has scored five goals this season, most recently in the 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace.
West Ham fans reacted to the Valencia news with a mix of disbelief and humour...
Great...Valencia injured now! Suppose that will be the next excuse if we lose from Sam #whufc— RJTHEGAME (@RockyWhu) March 12, 2015
News just in that Enner Valencia has had his foot damaged by a mug. That narrows it down to Nolan, O'Brien, Jarvis or Carlton Cole. #whufc— Barry Russell (@BarryRussell1) March 12, 2015
