Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi has told The Chronicle that he wants John Carver to remain the club’s long-term manager.
Carver is in charge of the Newcastle first team at the moment, and will remain so until the end of the season.
It is not yet clear if the the 50-year-old’s services will be retained beyond the summer, but youngster Ameobi has no doubts that he is the right man to take the club forward.
“John Carver is a man who sticks by his players,” the 22-year-old told The Chronicle. “He’s been around for so long.
"Everybody is very used to him. We all want the best for him. We are trying to the best for him and hopefully, he keeps his job.”
Should John Carver remain as Newcastle United boss?
It seems that Carver is very popular among the players and defends them, something that the team relishes.
The Englishman does come across as someone who understands his players and knows how to deal with them.
However, the problem is that results under Carver have not been great, with Newcastle currently 11th in the Premier League table with 35 points from 28 matches.
The Magpies are set to end the season in mid-table, which is not bad for Newcastle, but the football under Carver has not been very entertaining.
What Newcastle need is someone who can take them to a new level. Whether Carver is that man is debatable.
