Nottingham Forest should target Derby County loanee Darren Bent this summer

Darren Bent

Dougie Freedman will need a new striker in the summer.

Darren Bent's career at Aston Villa appears to be coming to an end. The former England international was frozen out under former manager Paul Lambert. Despite the arrival of Tim Sherwood at Villa Park his contract expires in the summer and therefore a Villa stay looks unlikely - especially as he is currently on loan at Derby County.

He has impressed during his time in the East Midlands. Bent has scored a total of seven goals in ten appearances for The Rams since joining the club in January. The fact most of those games have come as a substitute make his achievement all the more impressive.

But what next for the player?

Derby County may have designs on keeping Bent long-term at the end of the season, but local rivals Nottingham Forest would do well to steal in.

Dougie Freedman's side need a new striker. Current star man Britt Assombalonga faces a massive spell on the sidelines. In fact, it could very well be 2016 when we next see him in action for Forest.

With that in mind a cost effective goalscorer is high on the agenda for the summer.

Bent certainly fills that criteria.

His better days are behind him but he has proved this season that he still knows where the back of the net is. Forest would do well to snap up this Derby loanee in the summer, and make a real fist for promotion off the back of his arrival.
