The Swiss international has not been a regular at Elland Road this season.
Leeds United take on Nottingham Forest this weekend, with both fallen giants facing off at Elland Road. The game is expected to attract the biggest attendance in the Championship this season, so it is certainly a big clash.
Both teams also go into the game brimming with confidence after some good recent results.
Leeds have been performing well in recent weeks, with some surprise faces even impressing. That includes Swiss defender Gaetano Berardi.
The right-back, who has one international cap for Switzerland, joined the club from Sampdoria in the summer.
His career at Leeds so far has been blighted by problems. He has had the odd injury here and there but he was also sent off on his debut, before being sent off again in September. It was his second red card in four games.
After a spell out of the side the recent shrinking of the squad by Redfearn has seen him make a comeback. He started against Wigan Athletic last Saturday, his first appearance in the first team since January, and played well.
Redfearn has now commended him on his performance. He told his weekly press conference, as quoted by the official Leeds Twitter account, that he was pleased with the way Berardi performed.
Redfearn also speaks highly of Gaetano Berardi: "I've been very impressed. He's the ultimate professional. He did very well at Wigan." #lufc— Leeds United FC (@LUFC) March 12, 2015
Who knows? Berardi's career at Elland Road may not be doomed to failure after all.
