Manchester City fans react on Twitter to Martin Demichelis contract extension

Ivanovic Throw In - Chelsea v Man City

The Argentine World Cup finalist has agreed a one-year contract extension at The Etihad.

Earlier today it was announced that Manchester City had agreed a new one-year extension with their veteran defender Martin Demichelis.

The Argentine signed on the dotted line of the extension and will now remain with City until the summer of 2016. It is fair to say that this deal never looked like happening after his first few appearances for the club.

Manuel Pellegrini managed Demichelis at Malaga and was a big fan of the player. Therefore, he made a move for his services in 2013, signing him from Atletico Madrid just three months after joining the Spanish side.

His first few performances for the club were wretched. He looked slow, cumbersome and out of shape - the Premier League looked to be beyond him.

But in time he showed his class by adapting to the game and becoming an essential cog in the City machine. It resulted in him getting back in the Argentina team, with whom he played a World Cup final, and is now rightly regarded as a first-team regular.

Manchester City fans were therefore largely pleased with the news, as you can see from these Tweets...
