Leeds boss: Marco Silvestri has improved his command of the penalty area

Leeds boss Neil Redfearn has been discussing his goalkeeper ahead of Saturday afternoon's Championship clash with Nottingham Forest.

Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn is delighted with how goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has adapted his game this season, according to BBC Radio Leeds.

The 24-year-old has received endless praise for some of his more notable performances this term - including his unforgettable man-of-the-match display against Middlesbrough, during which his saves tally reached double figures.

The Leeds goalkeeper, however, has been criticised for one main shortcoming: his command of his penalty box during crosses.

That has led to continual questions being posed to manager Redfearn about what the Italian shot stopper is doing to deal with the issue.

And, fielding a query about Silvestri's command of his area on Thursday afternoon, the Leeds boss said he feels the goalkeeper has indeed improved in the key problem area this campaign - and will only get better the more he plays.

"To be fair to Marco Silvestri, he's been playing well. He's only a young guy and, from my point of view, there's lots of things that have improved in his game," the 49-year-old said.

"I think he's improved through playing, this level has demanded that he's had to improve with regards to commanding his box.

"He's an outstanding 'keeper and great shot stopper but, now, he's got more presence about him."

Leeds host Nottingham Forest at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, where, judging by the visitors' recent form, Silvestri may need to keep his wits about him in between the sticks once more.

The Yorkshire side have themselves won seven of their last 10 Championship games, though, meaning fans should be treated to a much better clash than the drab 1-1 draw that was played out in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
