Stoke City's Asmir Begovic comments on potential transfer speculation

Begovic has been linked with numerous Premier League clubs in the recent past.

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic seems to be anticipating transfer speculation linking him with a move away from the Britannia Stadium, according to quotes in the Stoke Sentinel.

The 27-year-old has been linked with several Premier League clubs in the not too distant past, and with his contract expiring in 2016, that speculation could intensify if a new contract isn't agreed in the very near future, but Begovic has said he will sit down with the hierachy at the end of the season.

He said: "Yes I know that can happen, but I just take it as a huge compliment, that kind of thing is always flattering.

"But when it's happened in the last couple of years I've stayed committed and focussed on the job and I'm going to continue doing that for the last 10 games.

"Then I'll sit down with the hierarchy because during the season I like to stay focussed on football and make sure we finish the season right.

"When we do sit down we will be honest with each other and see how we can take things forward."

Stoke are enjoying a pretty good season and currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League, but one of the questions that will have to crop up in the contract negotiations is whether the club can fulfil the expectations and ambitions of other clubs who have been linked with Begovic. It goes without saying that if the Potters were to lose Begovic, they wouldn't want it to be on a free transfer.

A lot also depends on other goalkeepers around the Premier League, whether clubs are going to be looking for one or not whatever the circumstances. Begovic has always been highly rated by fans and pundits so his name is bound to crop up in connection with other clubs, unless Stoke tie him down to a new deal then the murmurs may be a little quieter, at least.
