Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths has admitted to the Glasgow Evening Times that he’s wary manager Ronny Deila might not select him this weekend.
Griffiths is arguably the first choice striker at the club, but he’s said Deila could opt for controversial striker John Guidetti looking ahead to the game this weekend.
“It will be my first cup final with the club, and I just hope the gaffer selects me,” said Griffiths.
“It will be a tough decision for him because John (Guidetti) did well when he came on at Tannadice.”
Guidetti has been in the headlines for the last couple of weeks for all of the wrong reasons.
He’s openly admitted that he’s eyeing a return to the Netherlands, which questions his loyalty and commitment to the Celtic cause.
However, regardless of his questionable attitude and fitness, he remains a talented player who is capable of changing big games in tense situations.
Griffiths is arguably the more consistent and more reliable out of the two, which is the reason that Deila will more than likely opt for him ahead of the final.
The occasion of a League Cup final as Deila chases his first trophy with the club is too important for him to roll the dice and take a chance.
If anything, it will be a chance for Griffiths to turn himself into a Celtic legend with a big performance and a match, which could signal that Guidetti’s career with the Bhoys is well and truly over.
